We’re passionate about helping your children gain confidence in and around the ocean
Rob
Founder / Director of Marin Camp
As a lad of 11, Rob moved to a warm and sunny place near the sea in Florida. Practicing the exhilarating dance of wave riding and also marine biology became lifelong pursuits. Much later Rob discovered the lively art of Waldorf Education integrating the arts and academics. He became a teacher, husband, father and camp director and continues to tutor all ages and care for children at Marin Waldorf School.
The Orca Camp saltwater celebration started 30 summers ago with support from the warmth of extended family, learning through play and nature immersion. The practice of caring for "all my relations" is at the heart of our camp and we express gratitude for earth, sea and sky and all life.
Elena
Santa Barbara Counselor
Elena is a graduate of Loyola Marymount and started going to Orca Camp when she was 5. She loves all things in nature, especially the ocean, and attributes this passion to all her days at Orca school and Orca camp. She also loves seeing children smile, laugh, learn, and grow. Elena spends her school year babysitting, volunteering at the library's homework help program, working at a swim school, and being a cabin leader at outdoor schools for local 6th graders. She love that Orca camp combines her love of the ocean and her passion for helping children. Elena loves surfing, kayaking, and body surfing in the waves, with the children and the dolphins.
She will never give up the opportunity to make a drip castle, friendship bracelet, play the ukulele, or take a trip to the tide pools.
Seaweed Johnson
Director of Santa Barbara/Carpinteria Camp
Having grown up in Goleta, Seaweed has been in and around the water his whole life. An avid surfer, he was a member of the Pepperdine Surf Team in Malibu and taught kayak and paddle board tours as well as surf lessons at the Malibu Surf Shack while attending Pepperdine University. Seaweed first started working for Orca Camp as a CIT almost 20 years ago and enjoys the thrills of helping others to catch their first waves. Seaweed is also a musician and has contributed more than one original tune to Orca. Taylor also teaches guitar and ukulele lessons to campers both at camp and in-home lessons. After running the Santa Barbara camp for the last 6 years, he has taken over as director.
Khalil
Santa Barbara Counselor
Khalil is a Carpinteria native who grew up going to Orca Camp and worked his way from a CIT to a counselor. He is an avid surfer and skateboarder and leads an outdoor program at Waldorf School.
